Little Egret Egretta garzetta 8th October 2015
The Little Egret is a common sight at Hersey and for the past two years, at least, I’ve only ever seen them catch prawns or very small fish. This bird had been feeding quite leisurely in the same place, near the sea-water inlet, for a number of weeks but on this occasion it was frantically darting around and catching a lot of decent sized fish. I was quite surprised at how many it could eat. I went down the following day to try to get some more photos but it was back to catching prawns and I never saw it catch fish like this again.
